STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

The following 'wheel' explains how our ten strategic objectives, falling under the balanced scorecard perspectives of 'Community', 'Process', 'People' and 'Resource', work together to support delivery of the Fire and Rescue Service.

Community, Process, People and Resource

Our strategic objectives set out within the Integrated Risk Management Plan are based upon clear understanding of external and internal drivers.  A balanced scorecard, consisting of a range of performance indicators, is used to manage performance; more information relating to performance measure is provided in 'Statistics / Finance' section of the website.

Integrated Risk Management Plan

Every Fire and Rescue Service in the UK is required to produce a plan setting out their proposals on how they will deliver improvements to reduce risks in their local area.  We have produced an Integrated Risk Management Plan for the next five years and this was published in April 2009, following a period of consultation with stakeholders.  The plan was developed  based on a collection of risk data and intelligence from various sources, e.g. census data, demographics, property density, historic data on road traffic accidents, previous fires etc.

We also produce a Service Development Plan which forms part of the Council's Performance Management Framework.

Business Plan

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service Business Plan includes the approved budget allocation for 2011 - 2013 as well as details of our key business objectives.  Identified risks are shown next to the performance measures which will be used to achieve risk reduction.  We measure our own performance through a range of indicators against our strategic objectives.  We set targets based, where possible, on 5 year trend data and plan our activities to ensure we meet or exceed these targets.  Our resources, both financial and people are allocated to help us delivery these strategic objectives.  more information canbe found on the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Annual Report.

Annual Report

The Fire and Rescue Service Annual Report is one of a new set of reports that are part of the Council's revised Performance Management Framework which monitors how the Corporate Plan 2009-1013 is delivered.  These reports give an update on the Council's statutory responsibilities so members can monitor their progress and delivery.

The Annual Report highlights achievements and reports on the progress made against delivering the Fire and Rescue Service strategic objectives, during 2010/11, as set out in the Integrated Risk Management Plan.  The Annual Report also sets out the planned activities to be undertaken during 2011/12.

The Annual Report highlights those areas where best practice has been applied, where efficiencies have been made and the difference work has made to specific areas of high risk and communities in general.
