Unfortunately, although the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service used to run a Young Firefighters' Scheme, this has been temporarily halted due to lack of funding.
Some background information on the Young Firefighters' Scheme
The Young Firefighters' Scheme is for young people between the ages of 13 -17 who can join a uniformed organisation associated with the Fire Service. It aims to aid personal development mentally, physically and socially and helps to develop leadership qualities and the ability to try new experiences. It also encourages development of team skills with mutual support
During meetings the Young Firefighters are given practical and theoretical instructions on Fire Service related subjects. The training is of a comparable standard to that of operational firefighters taking into account age, height and weight differences.
