Paul Fletcher
1970 - 2009
Paul’s tragic death has been devastating for all who knew and worked with him, his family and his friends. Paul will be deeply missed as both a colleague and friend. I offer my personal sympathy and those of the Fire and Rescue Service to Paul's wife and children, as well as other family, his watch colleagues, friends and all who knew him. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
Paul was a credit to himself and the Service since joining in April 2004, previously serving with the police. Paul was promoted to Crew Manager in May 2009 and cared passionately about the Service and was dedicated to serving Island residents. Paul distinguished himself in several areas, notably in training and development, where he received the GO Union Learning Representative of the Year Award. He was a great ambassador for the Service and his passion for ensuring equality of access to development was recognised by all colleagues.
Paul was active and highly successful in working with the Fire Brigades Union nationally, regionally and locally, starting as brigade secretary and moving on to the post of regional chairman and learning co-ordinator.
We are all deeply saddened and will remember Paul for his laughter and thoughtfulness and who was loved by all.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have arranged for an online Book of Condolence to be available for members of the public to write their messages in memory of Paul.
