Question :    How do I apply to be a firefigher?

Answer :    Whenever a vacancy arises it is advertised in the Isle of Wight County Press and the job advertisement will also posted on the website under our 'Current Vacancies' section.

Due to the number of vacancies received regarding employment as a firefighter within the Service, we are unable to keep a list of interested people on file; application should be made at the time of an advertised vacancy.

Question

Who should I call about a fire extinquisher that doesn't work?

Answer

Please refer to the Yellow Pages for companies that specialise in this area.

Question

Can you pump out my pond/pool etc and what is the cost?

Answer

Unless the request is made by the environment agency to assist them in reducing potential environmental impact, or is linked to an operational incident for firefighting purposes, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service will not attend any request to fill or empty swimming pools, ponds or lakes.

This decision is based upon ensuring our resources are not used inappropriately and also helps us to minimise the use of water in non-essential situations which incurs a cost to the lcoal tax payer.
